Remote controlled icebergs made by Quebec artist Donna Akrey will be set up at locations for people to come by and control giving us some agency (at least fictitiously) in how and where the ice flows.
The idea behind Smoke Signals Sound, is to lasso the north pole in the name of creative political autonomy. Working together in 2011 and beyond, participants strategically located within the Arctic Circle will transmit/receive signals to/from each other. Coordinates and plans for transmission will be posted on this blog, so that others can tune in, look up, put out their feelers, etc. The blog will follow each event and post documentation and feedback. In addition, a dot will appear on the map for all sites of transmission and reception. We hope to accumulate enough dots to form a strong line (lasso) around the pole.
Those who participate in Smoke Signals Sound agree to: transmit/receive signal stories while in the Arctic region; freely re-interpret the signals so they remain strong and pertinent for the re-telling; document and re-tell these transmissions via this blog and/or other creative outlets; counter any plans for domination of the Arctic Circle. You are welcome to take part in this project if you agree to this mission.
